2019 RAM 1500 VS. 2018 TOYOTA TACOMA

2019 RAM 1500 VS. 2018 TOYOTA TACOMA

Whether your days take you out to Cheyenne Mountain for adventure or into Woodland Park for work, having the right truck can make the difference between a good day and a bad one. The newly redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 aims to ensure all days are good days by delivering more power, better features, and greater safety than competitors like the 2018 Toyota Tacoma. Explore our comparison below to see how well it does just that, and then drop by Perkins Motors and find your perfect match behind the wheel of a Ram.

The Ram 1500 offers more powerful engine options than the Toyota, including a potent 5.7L HEMI V8 powerplant that delivers 395-hp and up to 410 lb.-ft. of peak torque. The Toyota’s most powerful engine is a 3.5L V6 engine that creates just 278-hp and 265 lb.-ft. of peak torque.

The Ram 1500 is built for towing, offering as much as 12,750 pounds of towing and 2,300 pounds of payload capability – more than enough to get your off-road toys to Pueblo and back without a strain on the engine. The Tacoma provides access to just 6,800 pounds of towing and 1,380 pounds of payload capacity.

While the two trucks have similar base prices, and both offer multiple bed and cab configurations, the award-winning Ram 1500 has 29 different configurations, including the stunning Laramie that drivers can customize to their needs and lifestyles. The Tacoma falls short of that number, providing just 27 — and none offer an exterior locking storage system like RamBox.

Wards has named the Ram 1500 one of the “10 Best Interiors”, and it’s easy to see why. With features like stylish leather, advanced keyless Enter ‘n Go system, available heated rear seats and much more, the Ram 1500 provides utility and comfort in equal measure.

The Tacoma does offer leather touches. However, it lacks features like an advanced keyless entry system and cozy heated rear seats, which could make the winter drive in from Castle Rock a lot less comfortable for your passengers.

Parking a big truck in Canon City’s tight spaces can be a challenge. The Ram 1500 makes it easier thanks to available features like the Semi-Autonomous guided parking system and the 360-degree bird’s eye view camera system, which allows drivers to visualize obstacles around the vehicle and avoid them. The Tacoma offers only parking sonar and a backup camera.

To learn more about the newly redesigned 2019 Ram 1500, schedule a test drive at the Perkins Motors truck center in Colorado Springs, just a quick drive south of Denver on I-25 and worth the trip.
